Serendipity
serendipity
resided between suburbia and
ghetto,
a canvas of districts
a faux line dictates fate—
some lucky enough to slip through the
lines,
color outside their fate.
they scumble strokes of
division,
curate different hues of existence:
struggle
comfortable;
poor rich.
seated in classrooms as
anomaly,
as surprise;
half invisible
half spectacle—
unseen until
this painted body becomes asset,
unblended until game day—
a phantom,
effaced unless brown skin blends rigidly with primary colors
because pink matter
doesn’t matter when
you’re
brown.
is my canvas truly lucky
if colors only display in
black
and
white?
